Claudia Sheinbaum, virtual president-elect of Mexico, reaffirmed her commitment to the Justice Plan for the Seri people during a joint visit with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in Pitiquito, Sonora.
During this tour, Sheinbaum announced the construction of new rural roads, with the aim of improving the quality of life of the region’s native peoples.
Sheinbaum detailed the second phase of the rehabilitation of Highway 36 North, which connects Puerto Libertad with the Hermosillo-Bahía de Kino highway interchange.
The Comca’ac road from Punta Chueca and the road that connects the Seris with 36 Norte will also be included, a request raised by Gabriela Molina Moreno, ethnic councilor of Pitiquito.
Sheinbaum assured that these projects will be included in next year’s Expenditure Budget.

Collaboration with the Government of Sonora
The president-elect stressed the importance of working together with the governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, to continue López Obrador’s legacy.
This joint effort seeks to promote the well-being of all Mexicans, especially indigenous peoples.
During the event, the Seri people presented Sheinbaum with a Staff of Command, in recognition of her leadership and commitment to social and environmental justice, especially for women and indigenous peoples.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador celebrated the continuity of the Justice Plan, remembering that Sheinbaum will assume the presidency on October 1.
He highlighted that Sheinbaum’s recent victory, with a difference of more than 30 points, demonstrates broad popular support for the Fourth Transformation project, denying accusations of division by the opposition.

Inauguration of the Pitiquito Aqueduct
López Obrador highlighted the construction of the Pitiquito aqueduct, supervised during this tour, as an example of the government’s commitment to the indigenous peoples.
This project, which guarantees access to drinking water for the Seri people, responds to one of the main demands of these communities and will be inaugurated soon as part of the first stage of the Justice Plan for the Seri people.

Sheinbaum reaffirmed her commitment to the indigenous peoples and to the continuity of the transformation project initiated by López Obrador.
