The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, presented a digital platform that will allow the detailed monitoring of crime rates at the national, state and municipal levels.

This system was designed as a key tool for the Security Cabinet within the National Security Strategy.

The new platform seeks to optimize the daily and weekly evaluation of security progress, as well as strengthen coordination with the authorities of each state.

Sheinbaum explained that the platform will help identify and analyze priority security objectives, aligning the work of the Attorney General’s Office with the government’s intelligence and investigation strategies.

The president also stressed that, once the reform to article 21 of the Constitution is approved, the state prosecutors’ offices and security authorities must provide information to this database to improve their effectiveness and strengthen the security system in the country.

Results of the National Security Strategy

Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, reported recent achievements in combatting high-impact crimes, noting that from October 1 to November 8, 3,015 individuals were detained, 1,334 firearms were confiscated, and 42 tons of various drugs were seized.

The confiscated narcotics included 20,075 kilograms of cocaine and 390,740 fentanyl pills, a result achieved through joint efforts with the Defense and Navy ministries.

García Harfuch stressed that achieving lasting peace in Mexico requires a shared responsibility among institutions and that coordinated work is essential to reduce violence and restore safety to Mexican families.

Additionally, he highlighted the recent arrest of an international financial operator in Mexico City, who was identified as a key link in money laundering with extradition requests to the United States for drug trafficking and illicit finance-related charges.

Reduction in High-Impact Crimes

Marcela Figueroa Franco, head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), shared statistics indicating a 37.2% decrease in the daily average of high-impact crimes between 2019 and 2024.

Figueroa detailed that the peak was in February 2019 with an average of 1,011 daily crimes, while in October 2024, this dropped to 635.3 crimes per day.

For homicides, Figueroa noted a substantial reduction, with the daily average dropping from over 100 in February 2019 to 83 in October 2024—a 17.3% decline.

She also reported that 50% of these homicides occur in seven states, including Guanajuato, Baja California, and the State of Mexico, among others.

Although Sinaloa saw a rise in homicide rates in October, early November data shows a decrease.

Impact on Organized Crime and Defense and Navy Actions

The security strategy has led to concrete effects on organized crime activities.

In recent months, the National Defense Ministry and the Navy, in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office, dismantled 15 clandestine drug labs in Baja California and Sinaloa, where synthetic drugs were being produced.

These operations seized 40,185 liters of chemical substances and 5,156 kilograms of precursors, along with specialized equipment for drug production, resulting in an estimated financial loss of approximately 5.179 billion pesos for criminal organizations.

The strategy has also yielded significant results in seizing arms, cash, and vehicles.

The National Defense Ministry contributed to 46% of arrests and 34% of firearms confiscations, while the Navy seized 60 weapons, 170 magazines, 79 vehicles, and approximately 3,000 kilograms of marijuana, along with detaining 410 individuals.

During the “People’s Morning Press Conference,” the government honored revolutionary figures, the Flores Magón brothers, founders of the newspaper Regeneración, who played a crucial role in the Mexican Revolution.
