The impact of security strategies in Mexico under President Claudia Sheinbaum has resulted in historic advances.
This morning, during her national security briefing, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted surprising figures in the fight against organized crime, resulting in an economic impact of more than 50 billion pesos on criminal groups since October 2024.
These results are the result of intense operations that have seized considerable quantities of weapons, drugs, clandestine laboratories, vehicles, foreign currency, and other assets, reinforcing the message that the State is relentless in the face of crime.
The report details that, since the start of the current administration, federal forces have seized 15,496 firearms, in addition to 239.7 tons of prohibited substances, including more than 1,500 kilos and 575,110 fentanyl pills.
These achievements are complemented by the arrest of 30,755 individuals linked to high-impact crimes and the seizure of 1,356 methamphetamine production laboratories.
In addition, 1.9 million liters and 439.7 tons of chemical precursors were seized, along with 785 reactors, 524 condensers, and 138 distillers used for drug production.
Reduction of homicides and institutional strengthening
The president emphasized that, since the arrival of the so-called Fourth Transformation, homicides have shown a sustained downward trend, reversing the rise that began in 2006.
Notably, at the latest report, a 25.3% decrease in homicides was reported compared to the previous September.
Legal support for the Army and Navy, along with the creation of the National Guard and the strengthening of the National Intelligence and Investigation System, have been fundamental pillars for these achievements, always working from a comprehensive perspective that addresses both the persecution and the causes of violence.
Key arrests and the fight against extortion
The National Security Cabinet reported the arrest of various criminal organization operators and individuals involved in crimes such as homicide, femicide, drug trafficking, extortion, arms sales, and kidnapping.
These actions took place primarily in states such as Colima, the State of Mexico, Jalisco, Nayarit, Guerrero, Nuevo León, Sinaloa, Tabasco, and Puebla.
In addition, within the framework of the National Strategy against Extortion, 1,111 investigation files have been opened resulting from 32,622 anonymous calls, resulting in the thwarting of 69% of extortion attempts.
Citizen days and social participation
The federal government has implemented community initiatives such as Peace Days and the Welfare Market, serving thousands of people affected by violence and promoting grassroots social change.
Gun exchange modules have been deployed in 29 states, and government services have reached more than 2.1 million people.
Added to all this is the significant reduction in cargo theft along strategic routes, thanks to the National Guard’s Balam strategy.
Coordinated actions with the three levels of government and the active participation of key institutions reinforce Mexico’s commitment to building a safer and more just nation for all citizens.
