- Claudia Sheinbaum’s Inauguration
October 1 will mark a historic day for Mexico when Claudia Sheinbaum officially assumes the office of President of the Republic.
After sweeping the June 2 elections, Sheinbaum will become the first woman to lead the Executive Branch in more than 200 years of republican history.
The change of government will begin at dawn and will culminate with her swearing-in in the Chamber of Deputies, followed by a massive event in the Zócalo of Mexico City.
Sheinbaum, a scientist and former head of the Government of Mexico City, has come a long way in her political career, which began in the student movements and was consolidated after a meeting in 2000 with current President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Now, 24 years later, she is about to take the reins of the country, breaking a barrier that several women have tried to cross since 1994.
Last Day of AMLO’s Mandate
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will conclude his administration on September 30, but he will not say goodbye without first celebrating with a series of symbolic events.
According to reports, that day López Obrador will offer his last morning press conference, which will be brief and without questions from the press.
Afterwards, reporters will be able to join him for a breakfast with live music.
Among the scheduled events is the unveiling of his official portrait, as well as a special raffle in which López Obrador will give away his watch, a promise he made weeks ago.
The president also has planned a private meal with several international leaders before leaving the apartment in the National Palace where he has lived during his term.
However, he clarified that he will not immediately move to Palenque, Chiapas, but will remain a few more days in the capital.

Taking of Oath in the Chamber of Deputies
The official transfer of power will take place at midnight on October 1. Hours later, at 9:00 a.m., Claudia Sheinbaum will be sworn in at a solemn ceremony in the Chamber of Deputies.
A strong security presence is expected, with steel fences already installed to prevent blockades or demonstrations.
The ceremony will be attended by heads of state from several countries.
The protocol of the event, approved by the Chamber of Deputies, establishes that the session will begin with the attendance list and the declaration of the quorum.
Subsequently, the Solemn Proclamation and Article 87 of the Constitution, which establishes the presidential oath, will be read.
Congress will appoint protocol commissions to receive both the outgoing president and the president-elect.
These commissions will also escort Sheinbaum from her residence to the premises.
Sheinbaum and her First Speech at the Zócalo
After the official ceremony in San Lázaro, Sheinbaum will go to the National Palace to meet with international leaders who will witness her inauguration.
The event will culminate with a grand celebration in the capital’s Zócalo, the same place where Sheinbaum began and closed her presidential campaign.
This massive event will mark her first message as president to the Mexican people.
It should be noted that October 1 has been officially declared a holiday throughout the country, after Congress approved a reform to the Federal Labor Law.
Thus, Sheinbaum’s inauguration will be historic for the figure who assumes the position and for being a date that will be recorded in the national calendar as a new mandatory day of rest for all Mexicans.
